Good morning, Lisbon. It's Sunday and we're looking at 19°C with clearing skies after a soggy week. The world's biggest K-pop group just put our city on screens across the globe. Let's get into it.
🌬️ AIR QUALITY: 32 (Good). Storm Therese has moved on, leaving crisp air behind. Perfect for a long walk.
🗞️ TOP STORY
BTS FILMED THEIR COMEBACK VIDEO IN LISBON

If you noticed film crews near the waterfront back in early February, now you know why. BTS, the South Korean group with one of the largest fanbases on earth, shot the music video for "SWIM" entirely in Lisbon. The video dropped Friday and racked up 33 million views in its first 24 hours, making it the most-watched music video release of 2026 so far.
Director Tanu Muino filmed aboard actual ships and on elaborate sets built somewhere along the Tagus. The seven members appear as crew guiding a protagonist played by actress Lili Reinhart through emotional seas. Weather was apparently terrible throughout the shoot, but you wouldn't know it from the final cut, which looks like a Hollywood production with Lisbon's light doing the heavy lifting.
The song is the lead single from ARIRANG, the group's first full album since completing mandatory military service. A world tour follows: 82 dates across 34 cities, with analysts projecting up to $1.87 billion in revenue, potentially rivaling Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. Lisbon isn't on the tour schedule (yet), but the city is now permanently embedded in one of the most-watched music videos of 2026.
For the fans who spotted the members at Lisbon airport and around downtown back in February: yes, that was really them.
Bottom line: Lisbon just got free advertising to tens of millions of people. The tourism board couldn't have bought better placement.
⚡ QUICK HITS
Five-year citizenship path safe for now, but not permanently. Portugal's Constitutional Court struck down four provisions of the proposed nationality law in December, sending it back to Parliament. The 10-year timeline wasn't ruled unconstitutional, it just can't take effect until Parliament fixes the other issues. If you're approaching five years, don't wait. Get your language certificate sorted and apply before the revised law returns.
Rent cap for 2026 set at 2.25%. That's slightly higher than last year's 2.16% but far below the 7% that inflation threatened in 2023. For a €1,400 lease, expect about €31 more per month starting January.
Tsunami drill Monday at 10:30am. Sirens will wail across the city as Civil Protection tests the LisbonWave26 warning system. Don't panic. Do use it as a reminder to know your nearest route to higher ground.
Laufey sold out the Coliseu last night. If you missed the Icelandic jazz-pop singer, that's on you. The venue was packed.
🍽️ SPOT OF THE DAY
ZÉ DOS CORNOS

The name translates to "Joe of the Horns," a cheeky reference to the owner's father's extracurricular romantic history. This Mouraria tasca has tiles on the walls, paper tablecloths, news on the TV, and an owner who shows affection for regulars by mocking them relentlessly.
There's always a line, but they'll pour you beers while you wait on the sidewalk. The ribs (piano) are the move: falling off the bone, charred at the edges, served with rice and a small salad for around €10. The bifana is also excellent, and the house wine comes from the owner's own grapes somewhere in the countryside.
Cash only. No reservations. Open for lunch and dinner, closed Sundays. Get there by noon or 7pm sharp if you don't want to drink your meal standing up first. The tasca seats maybe 25 people, so elbows will touch.
Insider tip: If you become a regular, João will eventually stop charging you for the aguardente shot at the end of the meal. It takes about five visits.

📜 ON THIS DAY
On March 22, 1895, the Lumière brothers held their first private screening of a motion picture in Paris. The technology would eventually transform how cities like Lisbon saw themselves reflected back, from early Portuguese cinema to, 131 years later, a K-pop video filmed on the Tagus. The brothers probably didn't imagine BTS, but they understood the power of moving images to make a place feel larger than itself.
See you tomorrow morning.
